Today, thousands of developers use Platform.sh to solve web app development problems of all kinds. The new Platform.sh Developer Community provides a forum to share collected wisdom. Through the community, developers can access tutorials and how-to guides, ask and answer questions, and address challenges.
Explore the basics, like how to set up your app. Take a deep dive into Platform.sh concepts. Or get into the nitty-gritty details of routes and mount points. The community is a valuable resource to help move your Platform.sh development projects forward.
How can the Developer Community help?
An interactive publishing site, the Developer Community currently offers two types of content to help support your development on Platform.sh:
- Q&A. Questions can cover any aspect of building sites, like "How can I connect an external tool to my database?," or "How can I access to an environment variable in Javascript?." The answers come from smart people, like you, who’ve worked through the problems being discussed. So, if you see someone in need of help, please share what you know. Of course, the Platform.sh team participates in the community and can jump in to address questions, as needed. Our goal: no question left behind!
- How-to Guides. These posts address a specific goal and provide the steps needed to achieve it, e.g., "How to set up and deploy a Ruby on Rails application on Platform.sh," or "How to sync database backups to Amazon S3." How-to guides are purpose-oriented and step-based, focused on helping you do something practical and specific.
How’s the Developer Community built?
The community site is built with Discourse, with only minimal customization, and it runs on Platform.sh. We'll publish more about how we do this later, in case you're also interested in running Discourse.
The site uses single sign on (SSO) from the main Platform.sh accounts site, so anyone with a Platform.sh account can start engaging with the Developer Community just by selecting the login button.
With more than 100 interesting How-to Guides and answered questions, the Developer Community is already flourishing and helping developers do more with Platform.sh. We look forward to seeing you there!
